King Street West/ Chestergate Traffic Management (TM) Trial Update: the TM trial commenced 9.30am on Wednesday 9th May when all TM was put out and the lights switched off. It has been left on since. Observations have been undertaken of motorist, pedestrian and cyclist behaviours by TfGM-UTC, TCAP PM team, TCAP designer, SMBC Cycling & Walking Officer, SMBC Streetworks Manager, Alliance Framework Contractor and TM contractor. No issues have been observed and none have been reported in via communications channels.
Due to the success of the trial, the TM will now remain in place as Cadent Gas are on site repairing a gas leak and will take advantage of the working space. In addition, this gas repair will require the closure of the right turn from Chestergate to King Street West (south) from 10am Monday 14th May. Following on from this we will be mobilising contractors to decommission the signals at the junction in advance of BT works starting week commencing 28th May for 3-4 weeks. During this time we will be commencing works on other areas of the junction so as to minimise the length of time TM is in place.
Other point to note: Brick work on hold at Wood Street nursery wall as arrival of specialist coping required by SMBC Heritage is awaited.
