Stockport 4th Most Expensive Metropolitan Council: Lib Dem tax rise sees residents pay more than neighbours

Stockport Council Tax compared with other authorities

Stockport residents now pay the fourth highest Band D Council Tax of all Metropolitan Council areas in England, according to the latest figures from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities. Thanks to Liberal Democrat support for Labour's budget, local people in Stockport saw Council Tax increase by 4.04% this year, costing an average Band D household over £83 more per year.

Despite opposition from your local Conservative team, Liberal Democrat and Labour councillors slapped residents with the jaw-dropping bill at a time when household budgets are already squeezed. To add insult to injury, the Liberal Democrats rubber stamped more cash for top town hall bureaucrats whilst cutting front-line services.

Local Conservative Councillor, Oliver Johnstone said, "Stockport residents will be appalled to hear that they are paying higher Council Tax than many of their neighbours in other areas. Thanks to the Lib Dems, who now run the Council, we pay the fourth highest rate of Council Tax of any Metropolitan Council area in England. Whilst they offer warm words to residents on the rising cost of living, their actions show that they simply do not deliver results."

Your local Conservative team will continue to fight for a Council Tax freeze and a better deal for local residents in Stockport.
