HAVE YOUR SAY ON COUNCIL LIBRARY CONSULTATION
Following a successful pilot at Bramhall Library Stockport Council has now installed Open Library technology (Open+) across, Cheadle Hulme, Hazel Grove, High Lane, Heaton’s and Marple Libraries.
The introduction of Open+ and a reduction in staffed hours was a 2018/19 budget proposal agreed by full Council. Stockport Council is now consulting on the time periods library members would like to use the selected libraries when there is staff available or via self-service.
Open+ makes it possible for people to access library services on a self-service basis when it’s most convenient for them. The technology could enable library services to be available from these libraries 8.00am to 8.00pm on week days and 9.00am till 5.00pm on weekends, for both individual and community use.
Cllr Elise Wilson, Cabinet Member for Reform and Governance said: “We encourage residents to give their views on when they would like selected libraries across the borough to be staffed. This is to ensure that library members are offered the support they need when accessing library services.
“Open+ technology will enable us to preserve library services and benefit the wider community who may have found the current opening hours inconvenient. This is part of our continued commitment to retaining valuable local services and utilising our community assets.”
The consultation closes on 15th December 2018. Residents can have their say by visiting www.stockport.gov.uk/haveyoursay
