GREATER MANCHESTER SPATIAL FRAMEWORK DROP-IN EVENTS
A number of drop-in events have been set up around Stockport so residents and businesses can have their say on Greater Manchester’s Plan for Homes, Jobs and the Environment – also known as the Greater Manchester Spatial Framework (GMSF).
The events come following the launch of the GMSF consultation, which sets out to make Greater Manchester one of the best places to live and work in the world.
The plan is being produced by all 10 Greater Manchester councils working together in partnership, which will ensure that we have the right land available in the right places to deliver the homes and jobs we need up to 2037. It will also identify the new infrastructure such as transport, schools, health centres and utility networks required to achieve this.
To find out what this means locally for Stockport, the Council have organised a number of drop-in events, giving local residents the chance to speak to a member of the Council's planning team as well as the opportunity to provide comments.
Starting next week, you can find your local event below:
• Hazel Grove, Tuesday 5th February from 6pm to 8.30pm at Hazel Grove Civic Hall, London Road, Stockport, SK7 4DF;
• Reddish, Thursday 7th February from 6pm to 8.30pm at Houldsworth Sports Village, Broadstone Road, Stockport, SK5 7AT;
• Heald Green, Tuesday 12 February from 2pm to 5pm at Heald Green Village Hall
• Cheadle Hulme, Saturday 16th February from 9.30am to 1pm at the Kitchen, 5 Warren Road,
• Offerton, Tuesday 19th February from 6pm to 8.30pm at Offerton Community Centre.
• High Lane, Tuesday 26th February from 3pm to 8.30pm at High Lane Village Hall.
• Woodford, Monday 4th March from 4.30pm to 8.30pm at Woodford Community Centre.
• Romiley, Tuesday 5th March from 6pm to 8.30pm at Romiley Primary School.
• Woodley, Thursday 7th March from 5pm to 8.30pm at Woodley Civic Hall.
At these events, residents will also be able to learn how Stockport, through the GMSF and the Council’s Local Plan, will continue to protect as much of Stockport’s valuable green spaces as possible.
Councillor Kate Butler, Stockport Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Regeneration, said: “We have made a firm commitment to the people of Stockport that we will – as far as possible – build the homes we need on previously developed land. This Brownfield First approach is central to our ambitions and we have shown we have changed the first draft of the GMSF plan in light of feedback from our local communities.
“However we understand that the issues in one area of the borough may not be the same as in others, so we want to hear from local communities about the place they live – what works, what doesn’t, what they need and what they’d like to protect.
“To enable us to deliver the best possible plan we need and want your views so we can help shape a Stockport fit for the future. It is vitally important we listen to local views on how we can improve the environment and provide new opportunities to live and work in Stockport."
The online consultation is available at www.gmconsult.org – it will run until18 March 2019.
