Following impact from a heavy goods vehicle the west parapet of Compstall Bridge, over the River Etherow, was severely damaged. Obviously this is a serious safety issue and we are now in a position to undertake repairs to the west parapet and central pier as necessary, following negotiations with all relevant statutory parties. Our Framework Contractor, George Cox & Sons, will be undertaking works to reclaim the original stone from the river where possible, repair and rebuild the parapet and re-bed the original copings.
The works are anticipated to start on Monday 3rd September 2018 and will take approximately 2 weeks. They will be carried out from scaffolding erected over the river below and from the northbound traffic lane, where necessary. There is no pedestrian footway to the west side of the bridge so these works will be undertaken using temporary traffic lights and a single lane closure for safety. Working hours are expected to be between 0800 and 1800. Pedestrian access across the bridge will remain to the east side.
